Road Works Information

Dear Stakeholder

A205 Dulwich Common between Gallery Road and A2216 Junction – Footway Renewal
I would like to let you know that London Highways Alliance Contract (LoHAC) workers, on behalf of Transport for London (TfL), are planning to resurface the footway on the A205 Dulwich Common between Gallery Road and Lordship Lane. To do this, we need to close sections of the footway and put in place pedestrian diversions to ensure the works can be undertaken safely.

Why are we doing this work?

Work on the A205 Dulwich Common is part of the Road Modernisation Plan, the biggest investment for a generation consisting of hundreds of projects to transform junctions, bridges, tunnels and pedestrian areas. Working with London’s boroughs it will make our roads safer and more reliable.
The completed works will bring benefits to pedestrians by removing uneven surfaces, cracks and pot holes, as well as improving drainage along the footway. In addition to the improvements this work will also reduce the need for large scale maintenance of this footway in the near future.

Where and when will the work take place?

The footway works will take place from Tuesday 26 May 2015 through the week and weekends for approximately four months or until the works are completed. The works involving the A205 footway closures are expected to last both day and night for the duration of the scheme including Saturday and Sunday. The working hours will be between off peak times during the day and night. Every effort will be made to ensure that noisy operations are completed before midnight during the works but we should explain that vehicle reversing warning beepers are essential safety devices to protect operatives.

What we would like you to know

As with all works on the Transport for London Road Network, we must balance possible disruption to residents with disruption to traffic. Working during the night provides us with the best chance to complete these works safely and as quickly as possible whilst minimising disruption.

During the works, the A205 Footways will be temporarily closed at various sections, between Gallery and A2216 roads.

Entering or exiting the A205 footway from side roads within the works limits will not be possible at times during the works and local pedestrian diversions will be clearly signposted.

We will make every effort to ensure that noisy operations are completed before midnight but we should explain that vehicle reversing warning beepers are essential safety devices to protect those working nearby. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times during the works.

Keeping London moving

We have worked closely with LoHAC and the London Borough of Southwark, to reduce the impact of these works on road users, local residents and businesses as far as possible. I hope you will appreciate that a certain level of disruption is inevitable, and I apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of these essential works. Should you require further information or an update during the delivery of these works, please contact our Customer Services team on 0343 222 1234 or via the web at tfl.gov.uk/contact.

Kind Regards
